For the latest instalment in our ongoing series profiling key partner organisations in IRLI's global network, we caught up with Chipiliro Lulanga about his role as a Reprieve fellow in Malawi. Chipiliro shares his experience to date, which includes nine years working on death penalty cases and advocating for fair trials, whilst collaborating with organisations like IRLI to improve justice and human rights conditions.

The National Prosecution Authority (NPA) is a key partner in IRLI's Zambia programme and through its Gender-Based Crimes Department (GBCD) it plays a vital role in prosecuting these crimes and advocating for stronger legal protections. We caught up with Monde Manyando Muyoba-Chizongo, Senior State Advocate, and Chali Mbewe Hambayi, the Director of the GBCD.

As you may have already heard, Maria McCloskey recently became Executive Director at Irish Rule of Law International. Following her appointment last December, she kindly agreed to answer a few questions for us.

IRLI recently went to the women’s prison in Lilongwe to celebrate Human Rights Day with the 120 women who are being detained there, including women accused of infanticide. Infanticide was first introduced as a distinct offence in 1922 with the enactment of the Infanticide Act in England and Wales, which limited infanticide to neo-natal killing.

In collaboration with the International Bar Association Human Rights Institute, and Reprieve, IRLI is looking forward to hosting a public lecture on Saturday 2 November at the Protea Hotel, Blantyre, Malawi.
